Roof Mounted Solar Modules

This 3.6 kW system was installed on the south facing barn roof since the customer has a tile roof on the main home and not enough roof space facing south. They also wanted an aesthetically pleasing installation away from the main house. It has 30 of the BP SX 120U solar modules.

Inverter

This customer decided on the Advanced Energy MM5000 Inverter, which is rated for outdoor use and includes the Ground Fault protector and Charge controller within the Inverter. This particular inverter was housed within an energy cupboard since it was facing east and there was some concern about the heat of the sun during the early part of the day. So a well ventilated cupboard was built mainly for shade purposes.

Battery Backup

The system is 48v so a minimum battery bank of 4 PVX12-210AH batteries was installed for back up on a chosen load sub panel at the main house. These are also housed in the energy cupboard in a vented area protected from the other electrical components.

Battery Disconnect Switch

The customer used the Outback PSDC with one 250 amp breaker for the battery Disconnect Switch.

Main House Panel & Sub-Panel

This shows the Main House panel with the chosen load sub-panel installed by the homeowner with the lockable 250 amp Disconnect switch required by P.G. & E.

This system is working extremely well and the loads used by the main house during the day are sufficiently low in energy demand that the utility meter is reversing most of the time. So Credits are being earned with regard to this customer's energy requirement.
